The assailant fled the scene on foot before police arrived. But a suspect was soon found near 46 Street and 12 Avenue by two other responding police officers. An altercation took place before both officers opened fire on the man who sustained critical injuries. He was treated by paramedics on scene and transported to hospital where he remains.Article content
The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team is now investigating the officer-involved shooting while the city policeutopsies have been tentatively scheduled for Monday, May 8, and Tuesday, May 9. Investigators have confirmed the deceased are mother and child; however, it is not clear whether the assailant was known to them.
