For the first time, Major League Soccer (MLS) has publicly shared the amount of General Allocation Money (GAM) each of its 30 clubs will have available for the 2025 season. This unprecedented transparency sheds light on how teams can leverage GAM to enhance their roster building strategies within the league's salary cap framework.

Major League Soccer ( MLS ) has taken an unprecedented step by publicly disclosing the amount of General Allocation Money ( GAM ) each of its 30 clubs has available for the 2025 season. GAM is a mechanism designed to enhance teams' spending power within the league's salary cap budget. It can be utilized in trades to acquire players, secure international roster slots, and obtain draft picks.

Traditionally, the league only revealed GAM figures when involved in trades, citing the need to protect the interests of MLS and its clubs during negotiations with potential players or other leagues. In 2024, MLS clubs had a salary cap budget of $5.47 million to pay their senior roster (up to 18 or 20 players). For 2025, the league is allocating $2.93 million in GAM to each team, with expansion club San Diego FC receiving an additional $2.765 million. Despite the expansion boost, San Diego's current GAM total of $5,095,000 ranks below teams like Atlanta United, New England, and St. Louis City FC. Six teams, including FC Cincinnati, FC Dallas, Minnesota United, the Philadelphia Union, Real Salt Lake, and the Seattle Sounders, have 2025 GAM accounts ranging from $4 million to $5 million. The Houston Dynamo currently have the lowest amount at $2,063,538. The disclosed figures represent the initial GAM balance each club possesses at the start of the season before applying it to players. Canadian teams also see variations in their GAM allocations, with Vancouver leading at $3,658,458, followed by Toronto FC ($3,318,648) and CF Montreal ($2,948,106)
