MLB won't counter MLBPA's latest offer. MORE:
MLB has told Players Association it will not make a counter-offer to union’s 70-game proposal, sources tell me and
“MLB has informed the Association that it will not respond to our last proposal and will not play more than 60 games. Our Executive Board will convene in the near future to determine next steps. Importantly, Players remain committed to getting back to work as soon as possible.” It looked like the two sides were headed toward a deal on Wednesday when commissioner Rob Manfred and MLBPA executive director Tony Clark met face-to-face in Arizona for the first time in approximately three months, but both sides released conflicting statements later that day detailing what actually happened at the meeting.
Multiple reports indicated this added to the tension that had been apparent between the two sides for months before they were eventually able to work out a deal. Still, with the collective bargaining agreement expiring at the end of the 2021 season, this could only be the first instalment in a series of tough negotiations between the two sides.
