One of the bands Tolson was in, The March Violets, was flown to Los Angeles by John Hughes to be in his 1986 teen angst movie, Some Kind of Wonderful. London, England had nine daily newspapers and dozens of magazines, and since he was a news junkie, he thought he could tell stories with a camera. “We created video content for Maclean’s magazine, Chatelaine, Today’s Parent, Flare, Canadian Business, HELLO Magazine and Sportsnet,” he says.
“I love collaborating with people on the video and photography projects, but it’s equally as fulfilling to invent worlds and characters in fiction. I love the challenge of creating something out of nothing,” he says.Set in 1979, Noisemaker is the story of 17-year-old Billy Stamp. Inspired by the sonic anarchy of punk rock — like The Clash and Sex Pistols, Stamp flees a chaotic family life in Nova Scotia to drum his way to superstardom in England.
