Designer Anifa Mvuemba's brand, Hanifa, is all about inclusivity and glamour ✨

—Anifa pulls inspiration from everywhere. She is also dedicated to representing for Black women in the design space. “Black women have to work so hard all the time and there are so many expectations. Everyone is watching and that motivates me to work harder, but I think certain barriers need to be broken and I’m hoping to be a part of that change.”

Although she’s been designing for years, it wasn’t until recently that Hanifa saw a huge growth in its audience, thanks to social media. This year especially has been a huge one for the brand. In January, Anifa opened a storefront in her hometown because she thinks that's necessary. She is keenly aware of the obstacles she believes her customers face when shopping.

I've always sketched random things and clothes, but I officially started designing in 2011 and then in 2012 I officially launched my business. When I started I was 21 and now I’m 28, so I think my designs and the brand have evolved with me. It started as really simple clothes and then it turned into more detailed and tailored looks. It’s still growing, and I’m just enjoying the process of learning and discovering, but it’s definitely been a big change since I started.
