Left-handed reliever Andrew Mayza signs a major-league contract with the Pittsburgh Pirates, while right-handed reliever Anthony Borucki joins on a minor-league deal. Both pitchers previously played for the Toronto Blue Jays.

Veteran pitchers Andrew Mayza and Anthony Borucki have found new homes in the Major Leagues, joining the Pittsburgh Pirates . Mayza , a left-handed reliever, inked a major-league deal with the team. Meanwhile, Borucki , a right-handed reliever, signed a one-year minor-league contract with an invitation to Major League Spring Training.

Mayza, 33, spent the first eleven years of his professional baseball journey with the Toronto Blue Jays organization after being selected in the 12th round of the 2013 MLB June Amateur Draft. He made his MLB debut with the Jays in 2017 and was the longest-tenured active player on the team until his release last July. The Allentown, Pennsylvania native was a key left-handed option in the Jays bullpen from 2021 to 2023, with his most successful season coming in 2023. He maintained an impressive earned-run average (ERA) of 1.52 over 53.1 innings pitched. However, he faced challenges in 2024, recording an ERA of 8.03 before his release.Borucki, 30, was a 15th-round draft pick by Toronto in 2012 and made his debut for the team in 2018. The former starting pitcher transitioned to a relief role and pitched for parts of five seasons with the Blue Jays before being traded in 2022 to the Pittsburgh Pirates. Borucki displayed solid performance for the Pirates in 2023, posting an ERA of 2.45 across 38 appearances. Unfortunately, he struggled in 2024, with an ERA of 7.36 in 14 appearances
