Avalanche Canada issued a special public warning for recreational backcountry users on Monday that remains in place for much of British Columbia and Alberta.

VERNON — A ski resort near Vernon says one person was injured in an avalanche that swept down one of its runs on Wednesday.

Chantelle Deacon of Silver Star Resort says the man was airlifted off the mountain for treatment with unknown injuries.The resort has shut down all its lifts and runs and will monitor the situation. It says dramatic temperature increases in the provinces are increasing the likelihood of avalanches at a time when many people are heading into the mountains.
