Halifax Regional Police has arrested and charged Kenneth Curry Sykes, 51, in connection to a string of robberies in Halifax between Jan. 24 and Feb. 19. - FileHALIFAX, N.S. — Halifax police have laid 46 charges against a man in connection with five robberies that occurred in the city in January and February.The incidents include a robbery at the Smoke Shop on Windsor Street on Jan. 24, a similar incident at another Smoke Shop on Barrington Street on Jan.
Then, on Feb. 8, police said a man robbed Lawtons Drugs on Spring Garden Road, and on Feb. 15, a man robbed the Royal Bank branch on Spring Garden Road. In each incident, police said a man entered the business and threatened staff with a gun before fleeing area, in most cases with a quantity of cash. In a related incident on Feb. 19, police said a man damaged a vehicle parked in the Uniacke Street area.He is facing five counts of robbery with a firearm, five counts of possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose, five counts of careless use of a firearm and five counts of carrying a concealed firearm.
Additionally, Sykes is facing five charges of unauthorized possession of a firearm, five counts of possession of a firearm knowing it is unauthorized, 10 counts of possession contrary to firearm prohibition, five counts of disguise with intent and mischief.It has been our privilege to have the trust and support of our East Coast communities for the last 200 years.
