The Society of Saint Vincent de Paul wants to build a 38-unit housing project with on-site services provided by the North End Community Health Association (NECHA) for people who are homeless and need supportive housing.

This is the site where the Saint Vincent de Paul Society is looking to build a 38-unit supportive housing project, supported by federal funds through the Rapid Housing Initiative. - Tim KrochakPutting all its funding eggs in one basket, the municipality wants to spend all its $11 million Rapid Housing Initiative funding on a 38-unit supportive housing project in central Halifax.

The full cost of the project is $14.6 million and Jillian MacLellan, HRM principal planner, told Halifax regional council on Tuesday that she anticipates the province will step in with the extra $3.56 million. She said they expect to have a letter of support in the coming weeks. Residents for this project would be selected from the Affordable Housing of Nova Scotia by-name list, and 25 per cent of the units will target women and at least 15 per cent will target the African Nova Scotian and urban Indigenous communities. People in the LGBTQ community, folks with disabilities and seniors will also be given preference.

Coun. David Hendsbee said there were a lot of good proposals here that are spread out throughout the municipality.
