Niagara police say a man is under arrest after allegedly trying to abduct two young girls at a cheerleading competition in Niagara Falls over the weekend.
According to the police, the suspect was at the Niagara Falls Convention Centre on Saturday around 11 p.m. The centre was hosting the Canadian Cheer All-Star National Championships between Friday and Sunday.alleged the suspect was a male food service employee, employed by a third-party vendor, who entered the public area of the centre after completing his shift.
Police allege a coach saw the man approach a nine-year-old girl and “try to remove her from the building.” “The coach intervened,” the police release says. Shortly after, the man allegedly tried to remove a 10-year-old girl from the building.The children were not hurt, and police say the victims and the suspect did not know each other. Police made an arrest on Sunday afternoon.
Rodney Kwadjo Ababio, 19, of Niagara Falls is charged with two counts of abduction of someone under the age of 14. He was scheduled for a bail hearing by video on Monday.
