A 12-year-old boy died Sunday after falling into a creek in Edmundston, N.B. Police are warning people to stay away from waterways.
Edmundston Fire Chief Jacques Doiron is warning people to stay away from waterways after a 12-year-old boy died after falling into Mastic Creek in Edmundston on Sunday.Emergency responders received a call at about 3 p.m. Sunday about a report that a boy went missing after falling into a creek near Principale Street in the Saint-Basile area, said Edmundston Fire Chief Jacques Doiron, in an interview.
The warmer temperatures, however, create hazards around all water bodies, and those risks will remain for the next few weeks as snow and ice continues to melt. "So we ask people that live beside waterways, brooks, rivers, lakes, just to be careful. We don't want to have another incident like this happen this year for sure, and any other year."The victim was a student at École Régionale de Saint-Basile, said Julie Poulin, spokesperson for District Scolaire Francophone Nord-Ouest, in an email statement.
In response to the boy's death, the school called in psychologists, social workers and behaviour management workers on Monday, she said.
