The deadly violence took place about 2:20 a.m. Sunday in the area of 14th and Webster streets.
Police said the man killed was walking in the area when a gun battle erupted between at least two people that resulted in multiple shots being fired.He was then hit by a car in the 300 block of 14th Street, authorities said. The driver of the car fled the scene on foot.
At least one parked vehicle and two buildings were also hit by the gunfire but no other injuries were reported. The death is the 85th homicide investigated by Oakland police this year. Last year at this time police had investigated 87 homicides in the city. Separately, a non-fatal shooting Saturday night left a 19-year-old man wounded at least twice about 10:48 p.m. in the 2700 block of Garden Street in East Oakland.
