ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — A misunderstanding between a homeowner and a man allegedly trying to break into their home has led to the arrest of the 44-year-old man.

In the RNC overnight report, police say officers were called to a residential area of St. John's at 2 a.m. in response to complaints that a man had broken into a home by forcing the door open with his shoulder.Officers spoke with the homeowner, who was not at home at the time, and gave police consent to search the house since no one else was supposed to be there.

Police located and arrested a man hiding under a bed and confirmed his identity to the homeowner, who indicated the man had consent to be inside. Unfortunately for the accused, he had outstanding arrest warrants for breaching a release order and breach of probation and was taken into custody and held in the city lockup while awaiting a court appearance. It has been our privilege to have the trust and support of our East Coast communities for the last 200 years.
