Southbound highway traffic is being diverted after a pedestrian was struck at Trans-Canada Highway and Tillicum Road
A 22-year-old man suffered potentially life-threatening injuries when he was struck by a Toyota Prius at the intersection of the Trans-Canada Highway and Tillicum Road Thursday morning.
Southbound highway lanes were closed and traffic was being diverted at Tillicum Road in the wake of the 10:30 a.m. incident. Traffic was expected to be affected until about 2 p.m. The Prius remained in the middle of the intersection, along with what looked like clothing and a backpack and pieces of paper on the road.Police said information is circulating on social media about what may have caused the crash, but they are not yet able to confirm the circumstances.No updates on the pedestrian’s condition were immediately available.
B.C. Transit said the incident has led to detours on a number of routes, including 47, 48, 50, 51, 63, 61 and 65 Downtown. Buses affected are using the Burnside Road West exit, then going left on Harriet Road, right on Douglas Street and then back to their regular routes.
