After stepping down from his anchor post, Janz continued at CTV, launching a weekly series called "Inspired," in which he profiled Albertans who had made an inspiring contribution to the province.
According to his CTV bio, Janz grew up in the small town of Main Centre, Sask. After finishing high school, he attended teachers' college in Regina. He taught for one year before embarking on a career in broadcasting with a job at CFAM Radio in Altona, Man. Following stints in Moose Jaw, Sask., Saskatoon, Montreal and London, Ont., Janz arrived in Calgary in 1973, signing a five-year contract to host the news at CFCN-TV . He never left.A memorial service will be held at a later date, according to the post announcing his death.
