Re: “History repeating in Carrollton,” by Sharon Grigsby, Wednesday Metro & Business column, and “Dallas man arrested with 6,000 fentanyl pills,”...

Readers express concern about the fentanyl crisis; suggest Texas develop a climate action plan; agree that veterinarians needs more supervision; and point out Airbus is working on an electric plane.

But he and his colleagues must feel as if they are playing whack-a-mole by themselves! While Grigsby focused on the failure of the schools to protect students, schools can only do so much besides education and alerts because dealers usually operate off school grounds. And we can’t allow politically motivated issues to distract us. This is not a campaign issue. It is our kids’ lives! The recent fentanyl deaths among Carrollton-Farmers Branch students are tragic. But by what distorted logic are the schools at fault for not preventing off-campus drug use by kids who bought the drugs from adolescent criminals who acquired them from other criminals?

Like the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., we will be more effective if we stick to his idea of peaceful resistance. No fires, please!Re: “Texas Lakes, Rivers Are on the Line ― EPA is looking into complaints of TCEQ’s ‘broken system’ of water permits,” Sunday editorial. Climate plans set greenhouse gas emission targets and actions to accomplish them. They enact sustainability measures to ensure a livable future. They set standards to maintain safe infrastructure such as highways and bridges affected by higher temperatures and frequent flooding. They are long-range plans, not incremental, patchwork policies designed to delay progress.

During my seven-year history with the Texas Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners, veterinary professionals’ interests have repeatedly and increasingly been prioritized over the public’s. To be clear, the Texas Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners is a state agency meant to protect the public from violative veterinary professionals. Whereas the Texas Veterinary Medical Association is a special-interest group that protects veterinary professionals.
