One of our greatest jurists, Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes, spoke about the importance of precision in our choice of words in a 1918 Supreme Court opinion: “A word is not a crystal, transparent and unchanged; it is the skin of a living thought and may vary in color and content according to the circumstances and time in which it is said.

Now that I am old, I see that Christian nationalism is a silent call for white supremacy, men in charge and Nazism. I’ll take my chances with secular globalism.Re: “Trump’s time is up,” by Walter Buce, Friday Letters. Finally, good news in Texas: Petland is closing its doors for good. The owner is unhappy, but thousands of suffering cats and dogs will be free from pain and sickness. Their owners will not be heartbroken watching them suffer and going broke in the process.
