Calgary Sun Letters to the Editor, August 20, 2023: \u0027Story of hope from our beleaguered health\u002Dcare system\u0027
In the midst of medical chaos, long wait times and an underfunded medical system, there are stories of hope. I have been waiting more than two years for hip replacement surgery. As the wait went on, my life got smaller as I had to give up activities due to pain and lack of mobility. While waiting, a medical issue unrelated to my hip was identified, and while dealing with that, a surgery date for my hip became available.
Albert Rosengarten, the physician helping me with the secondary problem, and he told me he was going to see what he could do, with help from a colleague, to expedite the procedure necessary to facilitate the hip surgery. Within two days, Dr. Fiona Mattatal called, and I was brought in for a consultation and had a procedure date booked within the week, all in an effort to ensure my hip surgery date. They communicated with the hip surgeon advising him of the progress.
