Joel Stoddart cites "the growing body of evidence showing the alarming impacts of student masking on both social and speech-language development." - Kelly Sikkema /UnsplashUp until the last decade or so, there was a longstanding society-wide consensus on what the term “safety” meant.
She also presents her case as though there are no downsides to student masking. My husband has had serious health conditions for the past two years. I have asthma. We are both at higher risk from influenza and are over 65. We are not in a care home, nor are we considering placement, so our high-dose vaccinations would not be free. I remember when everyone was upset at all the people getting COVID. I am vaccinated and have two boosters but still do not shop in large stores; I do online banking, etc. The seniors are the ones dying. How about giving us some protection by wearing masks? We are as important as the younger people.Perhaps the biggest obstacle to health-care reform is the provincial and territorial leaders. They have acted like a bunch of spoiled brats who only want their own way.
The sort of shameful activity displayed by the premiers only makes it more obvious that certain aspects of health care should be a federal responsibility, not a provincial one.One million B.C. residents, or 10 per cent of the population, is without a family physician. . In short order, most provinces will follow suit in order to remain competitive. We will be paying, as taxpayers, more money for the same outcome.
