As one legendary hockey chapter closes at UNB, Gardiner MacDougall hopes another is about to begin with the Moncton Wildcats.

This past season, MacDougall didn't lose a single game he coached. He guided UNB to a perfect 30-0 regular-season record, won all five AUS playoff games and another three at the 2024 University Cup. UNB defeated the UQTR Patriotes to clinch the U Sports title for a second consecutive year. In 2022, the Bedeque, P.E.I., native coached the Saint John Sea Dogs to a Memorial Cup title at TD Station in Saint John, N.B. After the Sea Dogs were eliminated in the opening round of the QMJHL playoffs that year, the club fired head coach Gordie Dwyer and brought in MacDougall on an interim basis to turn the ship around for the Canadian Hockey League championship tournament.
