CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Following two complaints filed to OmbudsPEI, the province’s legal aid office says it will work on building a new internal policy to review and ensure decisions of denying representations are fair in the future.
One of the complainants alleged their application was initially approved but was denied upon meeting their lawyer, while the other asserted they were denied immediately upon contacting the organization, says OmbudsPEI.'A failure in communication': Ombudsperson investigation needed into mobile mental health, Knockwood death: P.E.I. "Legal Aid recognized problems with how both complainants were treated, and committed to developing a process for automatic review of denials," OmbudsPEI said in a statement.
