Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi, D-Ill., is asking the Food and Drug Administration to investigate whether e-cigarette giant Juul is illegally making smoking cessation claims.

Juul advertises its e-cigarettes as a way to "switch" from cigarettes.Chairman Raja Krishnamoorthi points to a poster showing similarities between Marlboro cigarette ads and JUUL Vaping paraphernalia, during a House Economic and Consumer Policy Subcommittee hearing that heard testimony on JUUL's Role in the youth nicotine epidemic, on July 25, 2019 in Washington, DC.

"The subcommittee urges FDA to evaluate the admissions and statements … and expeditiously take all appropriate enforcement action to protect the American public from the fraudulent and unapproved medical claims made by Juul," Krishnamoorthi said in the letter sent Thursday. "The FDA continues to closely scrutinize potentially false, misleading or unsubstantiated claims on a case-by-case basis to ensure that the public, including both adults and youth, are not misled," the Caccomo said in a statement.
