“We feel that WI has an important educational role for women today, not only rural women, but all women these days, and that it can be a good chance for women to keep up with important issues of the day,” Fells says. “It is also a wonderful chance for socializing with other women of varying ages and interests.”
“In addition to these things, we contribute in small ways to the Federated Women’s Institute of Canada and through our dues, have a connection to ACWW , which incidentally has a voice at the United Nations,” says Fells. “It has been girls’ night out since 1913!” she says in reference to when women’s institutes began in Nova Scotia.Irene White has been a member for 45 years and says,"Women's Institute has been an education as well as a place to get to know your neighbours as well as make lifetime friends."
