Hambleton, who was awarded his grandmaster title by International Chess Federation in 2018, said competing in tournaments still brought nerves, especially when the pressure to win was high. Side tournaments included the Maritime Rapid Chess Championship on Oct. 6, the Maritime Amateur Chess Championship on Oct. 7 and the Maritime Junior Chess Championship and Maritime Blitz Championship on Oct. 8.
Louis has been actively competing in chess tournaments for the past couple of years, having initially learned chess in a club.
