The project, part of a larger safety initiative for three hydroelectric dams on the Campbell River system, is expected to create 70 jobs annually until its completion in 2029. BC Hydro emphasizes that the upgrades are crucial for maintaining public safety and reliability post-earthquake, given Vancouver Island's high seismic activity.

“The McIvor Lake recreational area can be very busy during the summer so large deliveries to the project will be early in the morning and away from peak summer daily use,” states BC Hydro. “The funds come from BC Hydro customers through rates. This project started in 2015 and is planned for completion in 2029. The cost is spread out over time.”
