One of the many spaces filled with crafts at the North Woodside Community Centre over the weekend. - Katy JeanI hopped out of my Uber and into post-tropical storm Nicole. The wind forced my eyelids open and my eyeballs were pelted with rain. Not a typical start to a Kris Kringle Craft Show.
The show has a maze of tables in small rooms off a basement gymnasium. Eventually, whether you’d been in a room already became more and more of a mystery. My brain put me back in a plastic chair at a long fold-out table. Around the table were a few young introverts forsaken by their peers. I could see the burly Gigeroff beside me in his thick wool knit sweater and a beard that seemed perfectly untamed.
It was bittersweet to be reminded of Lex Gigeroff at such an event. This Christmas Day will be 11 years since his passing. Brinn’s synopsis: “There’s just little patches of land and people that have survived and some of them have new, bizarre abilities that they’re also trying to kind of figure out while they’re navigating this new landscape and this new way of living. It's just their stories and how they survive and maybe some not great choices they make along the way, but how they find community again in the end.
