Karen reportedly sent an email to Dr. Catrine Jarman expressing her anger over the situation, stating that it was immoral to turn the children's lives upside down. She also informed Catrine that she would not be allowed to stay at Althorp while she still lived there. Karen cited the impact on herself, their daughter, and the staff who were already distressed by the divorce news. She argued that having to serve Charles' long-term mistress was too much to ask.
The email was reportedly part of court documents submitted by Karen in response to a lawsuit filed by Catrine, who hosts a history podcast with Charles, the ninth Earl of Spencer, and co-authored a book with him. In her defense papers, Karen stated that she is entitled to explain that she and Charles had an affair and that this was the reason for their divorce. She also claimed that her actions were justified because of the way she was treated, particularly Charles allegedly ending their marriage over a text. Karen emphasized the sacrifices she made by giving up her life in the United States to live in rural Northamptonshire and dedicate herself to the Althorp Estate, as well as having a child.
