I rarely disagree with anything the legendary sports broadcaster and basketball coach Dick Vitale has to say. But I do think he was wrong with his Twitter post suggesting that the postgame handshake should be a thing of the past.
This week, Howard used the handshake line to redeem himself in the eyes of many when moments after his team pulled off an upset over No. 3 Tennessee, Howard consoled sobbing Volunteer point guard Kennedy Chandler, hugging him and sharing some words of encouragement.
The operational word in the above statement is “growth,” and Howard showed he had grown, too, in the weeks between when he failed to show humility in defeat and the week in which he succeeded in showing grace in victory.
