No one I have ever talked to understood why a private home in Winnetka divided two public parks and beaches

During the pandemic, my wife and I dedicated significant thought to our family’s long-term plans. At that time, we were blessed with a toddler and another baby on the way. Like many others in the same situation, we spent many nights discussing what we wanted for the future of our family and where we wanted our long-term home to be. Although I am not originally from Chicago, I have lived here for 20 years and fell in love with this city.

The green space, waterfront and parks were among the reasons we chose Winnetka. So, it seemed natural to us to be supportive of Winnetka parks regardless of the fate of the land swap. That’s why we agreed, when asked by the park board in August, to donate $3 million to support their plans to create a pathway to the beach compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act and to build a dog beach.
