Local leaders in the Skokie and north suburban area give their views on the Israel war.

The war in Israel has sparked emotional reactions from leaders in the north suburbs, including in Skokie, whose population is more than 25 percent Jewish and which is home to more than a dozen synagogues. In the past 20 years, the Arabic population of Skokie has also been growing, and the towns hosts a Muslim school which has ties to a mosque in neighboring Morton Grove. Pioneer Press spoke to local leaders to get their reactions.

“I’m reminded of stories I heard from my parents about their families being loaded up on trucks and never being seen again, which is what’s happened,” Brooks said. “It’s a nightmare, and I’m praying for everyone.
