“President Biden believes veterans harmed by toxic exposures while they were stationed at K2 should have access to the benefits they earned and deserve," White House spokesperson Kelly Scully said in a statement to the AP. The VA does not have statistics on how many of the 15,000-plus troops deployed at K2 got sick. The veterans grassroots organization has contacted about 5,000 of them, and more than 1,500 reported serious medical conditions, including cancers, kidney and bone problems, reproductive issues and birth defects.
