The 37 year old mother suspects her 11 month old son contracted Polio because he was crawling in dirty spaces and drinking contaminated water.

Nafin Abu Al-Jidyan says her son was crawling normally, until one day, he developed a fever followed by vomiting. She rushed him to the Al-Aqsa Hospital, where staff ran tests and confirmed Abdul Rahman had contracted polio.Nafin Abu Al-Jidyan, 37, suspects her 11-month-old son contracted polio in part because he was crawling in dirty spaces and drinking potentially contaminated water.

Gaza's polio situation is "absolutely catastrophic," Tess Ingram, a UNICEF spokesperson based in Amman, Jordan, told CBC. Born into a war, the boy hasn't yet known a normal life and is heading into his first birthday with the prospect of permanent paralysis looming over him. The family has been displaced more than five times throughout the war and is now even more isolated as neighbours fear contracting the virus.
