Jobless higher this spring
The unemployment rate in the Belleville – Quinte West area jumped by just over three per cent this spring.
A report to the Quinte Economic Development Commission indicates the rate of out-of-work people jumped in March. Statistics for this area show the unemployed number sat at 5.1 per cent this year, compared to 2.2 per cent in 2022.For the entire province of Ontario, the out-of-work number sat at almost the identical number, at five-point-three.
Meanwhile the employment rate sat at 61.1 percent in Belleville -Quinte West, a 3.4 per cent hike over 2022. For Ontario, statistics show 61.5 per cent employment rate this spring, up just .7 per cent over last year.
