On the heels of another former costar sharing their love for him, Jeffrey Dean Morgan has praised Brendan Fraser's comeback after the viral video from The Whale premiere. Morgan, best known for his role as Negan on The Walking Dead, previously collaborated with Fraser on the poorly received historical miniseries, Texas Rising, on the History Channel.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY After a memorable hiatus from the industry, Fraser has enjoyed a steady return to the spotlight, with Darren Aronofsky's The Whale serving as the next major step in his return to stardom. Fraser stars in the film as Charlie, a 600-pound middle-aged teacher who struggles to correct the errors of his past and reconnect with his seventeen-year-old daughter, who he abandoned years before in favor of his gay lover that later died.
Morgan is the latest former Fraser collaborator to take to social media to celebrate the actor following the video of his emotional response going viral. Dwayne Johnson, who made his feature debut acting alongside Fraser in The Mummy Returns, described feeling "so happy" to see his former costar, while his Batgirl co-director Adil El Arbi called it a "great honor" to work with him on the film and saying he deserves the best.
While some films that debut to a major standing ovation at festivals ultimately receive a mixed response on release, early The Whale reviews have been largely positive, with the film sitting at an 85 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Between the initial positive response and general love for the star, awards season chatter has begun to build around Fraser, with many calling for him to be nominated or win his first Oscar for his emotional leading turn.
