Rhetorical bombs are great, but never underestimate the destructive power of the humble political blow-dart

It’s a bit more than 24 hours after Jason Kenney became Alberta’s premier, and his government been slapped with a constitutional challenge from B.C., while threatening two constitutional challenges of its own against Ottawa. Is this the toned-down, more diplomatically savvy Jason Kenney after a campaign full of bombast?At very least, Kenney is no longer provoking hoots of Albertan glee by musing he’d make Vancouver carbon-free by 2020.

Though he’s not the make-‘em-pay tough guy he projected to voters, Kenney appeared on steadier ground in his pipeline tactics than either of his NDP counterparts, Notley or Horgan. The former Alberta premier accused Kenney of political posturing, but only because it’s a higher level of posturing that Notley herself adopted by drafting this provocative bill in the first place.
