'I did not want a formal house. I wanted a livable house. It all just goes together, the whole house.'

Benjamin Moore’s Shaker Beige paint creates a creamy white background throughout much of the home.In March 2020, Laura and Greg Davis were disappointed that they couldn't meet their new grandchild, born to their eldest daughter in Denver. Flying wasn't really an option as the world struggled to cope with a new strain of virus with a funny name.

All of their children are grown, but the Davises reveled in their ability to bring their entire family, three generations, back home to weather the early days of the pandemic and demonstrate the strength of their family bond. There were 13 of them under one roof, and their 14th family member is on the way now.

Their old home was darker inside and their furniture was more rustic. Chelsi encouraged her mother to hire two friends who in recent years had launched their own design firm, Kiley Jackson and Aileen Warren of Jackson Warren Interiors. "We always start with the rug when we can because it’s easier to pull fabric off of a rug than the other way around," Warren said."The rug in the living room is from Matt Camron, a reproduction Oushak. It had pretty pastels, and Laura wanted to keep the room light and bright and airy, so that’s what we did with the fabric, kept it neutral but interesting with a pattern on the wing chairs and sheer draperies on the patio doors to give the wall some interest.

Jackson and Warren took and old-new, mix-and-match approach to the room, using two different side tables, one an antique and the other a Rose Tarlow table that looks like it could be. They combined mismatched lamps, one a curvy, new table lamp and the other a metal, antique floor lamp. So the Davises and Jackson and Warren devised a plan to make this a dual purpose dining room. Against the back wall a soft green velvet banquette resides behind a long trestle-style table with upholstered chairs on the ends and the other side of the table. But this room has plenty of floor space, so they also created a spot with four cozy club chairs and ottoman.
