Another downtown Victoria restaurant is closing, though the operators of Tombo hope to revive the business one day.
The bakery didn’t give a singular reason for the closure but, in a statement on Instagram, said it hasn’t been easy operating a small business in Victoria’s downtown.
“It’s just time for us to move on from Yates Street, and as much as we love you all and our wonderful space here, keeping a small business alive downtown in Victoria has proven to be incredibly difficult, for so many reasons,” they wrote.“Underpromise and overdeliver, that’s the secret,” said Moore at the time.
“The landlord came back not with a proposal but with a demand of a 30 per cent interest,” said Gillespie on Sept. 6. “We’re losing a lot of the flavour in this city.”New Westminster Coun. Tasha Henderson, who plans to discuss her motion to enable local governments to regulate commercial rent increases in B.C.
Now, at Tombo, the staff are thanking patrons and coworkers, expressing their “sincere gratitude and appreciation” to all of them. “Over the past year, we have loved serving delicious food and drinks to this beautiful community, and we thank you all for the love and support you’ve shown us,” the bakery said, adding, “We feel so privileged to have worked with some brilliant and talented people, from designers to painters and builders, friends and family to incredible professional chefs, pastry chefs and serving staff.”“This is not the end for Tombo,” added staff.
