Hydro One says a crane incident in the Port Lands area of downtown Toronto could be the cause of a major power outage.
“We are investigating reports that this was caused by a crane … on a barge and as it was moving through the Portlands area it came into contact with a high-voltage line,” said Hydro One spokesperson Tiziana Baccega Rosa.
Hydro One said it is working to confirm if the crane was the root of the problem. There was no specific timeline as to when power might be restored. Toronto Hydro says, “We’re currently experiencing a large outage in downtown Toronto due to a loss of supply from Hydro One, affecting approximately 10,000 customers. Hydro One is investigating and we appreciate everyone’s ongoing patience.• North of Carlton St. to south of Queens Quay E. and York St. east of Bayview Ave.Advertisement 4The online outage map for Toronto Hydro suggested customers in some pockets of the outage could be without power until 9:15 p.m.
