Archeologists have been sharing the work with the public, inviting community members to come, pick up a brush and bucket, and get digging.
But it’s an exciting process, too; especially whenago start coming up out of the ground. There’s ammunition and shell casings, bits of glass and ceramic, nails and bolts, and even personal items like knives, suspender buckles and coins.
And at this site, archeologists have been sharing the hard work — and the joy — of unearthing history with the local community, inviting everyone from toddlers to seniors to come to Original Humboldt, pick up a brush and a bucket, and get digging. “Living heritage is what we get from the past and the present,” said Playford. “It’s what we do. It’s our traditions; it’s our songs; it’s our music; it’s our stories. It’s the ways people make a life and make a living.”
