If you’re hitting the road this summer, CAA has some advice to help you make the most out of every last drop of gas.“A vehicle at 120 kilometres per hour uses about 20 per cent more fuel than a vehicle travelling at 100 kilometres an hour,” said Nadia Matos, external communications manager for CAA South Central Ontario , in an interview with Durham Radio News. “Really, on a 25-kilometre trip, it will only save you about two minutes.

“Of course, if you’re going to the cottage, you plan out the route or you may know that route, but what if you’re doing errands inside of the city?” she said. “It’s really important to plan your route.”“I am guilty of carrying way too many things sometimes in my trunk, if that’s like beach umbrellas or chairs […] but an extra 100 pounds can really reduce your fuel economy.”Matos also noted that regular maintenance can keep your vehicle running efficiently.
