Ipsos survey for the Toronto Star and Global News pegs Chow’s citywide support at 38 per cent compared to only 14 per cent for her nearest rival Mark Saunders.
suggest the attacks on Chow have failed and Toronto is set to make a political left turn after a quarter-century dominated by centrist and right-leaning leaders, save for the 2003-10 mayoralty of David Miller.
Respondents favoured Chow on top issues of housing affordability and cost of living, while giving Saunders the edge on public safety. Other concerns included spending taxpayers’ money wisely, public transit, homelessness, controlling taxes and traffic congestion. The poll found strong Chow support among renters, voters aged 18 to 34, university-educated Torontonians and those in households earning $100,000 or more per year.in the civic election. Advance voting was higher this time, with almost 130,000 people casting ballots over six days ending last Tuesday.
