A homeowner in Clayton County, Georgia , was arrested after she forcibly removed a woman she claimed was squatting in her home. Loletha, the homeowner, stated that Sakemeyia, the woman she removed, entered her home with a man and refused to leave. Police were initially called to the scene and reportedly sided with Sakemeyia, telling Loletha to be considerate of people less fortunate.
Loletha insisted she had no relationship with Sakemeyia, stating she was only a relative of a previously evicted tenant's partner. Bodycam footage captured the incident, showing police advising Loletha to be understanding of Sakemeyia's situation. Loletha claims she removed Sakemeyia's belongings and threatened her with violence. She was subsequently arrested. A judge later ruled that Sakemeyia was not a squatter, overturning the initial citation issued under Georgia's new Squatter Reform Act
