The Wabanki Wildfire Team, made up of ten Indigenous firefighters from three First Nations in New Brunswick, is heading to Alberta to help fight fires.

The Wabanki Wildland Wildfire crew is made up of 10 Indigenous firefighters from Neqotkuk , Sitansisk and Natoaganeg First Nations. As wildfires rage in Western Canada, a group of Indigenous firefighters is partnering with the province to head to Alberta and lend a hand.

"We had discussions at the table, and proposed to partner up with us," Sappier said, onSappier said the Indigenous firefighting crew was a joint effort with the provincial Department of Natural Resources. Some of the firefighters from Neqotkuk , Sitansisk and Natoaganeg are new to the trade but many are skilled, including two fire chiefs, Sappier said.
