Large hail fell in the MacEwan Glen area, a community in Calgary's northwest, on Monday evening as Environment Canada said its meteorologists were tracking a severe thunderstorm. A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for parts of southern Alberta after an Alberta Emergency Alert for very large hail was issued on Monday evening.says meteorologists are tracking a "very dangerous thunderstorm" capable of producing baseball-sized hail, strong wind gusts and heavy rain.

As of just after 9 p.m., the agency said the thunderstorm was located in Cheadle and Strathmore, Alta., and was heading to the east at 50 km/h.was also originally issued at 7:57 p.m. on Monday. An 8:58 p.m. update to the alert noted that "extra care and attention" should be exercised in the areas of Blackie, Arrowhead, Milo, Vulcan, Carmangay and Lomond.
