The name of Calgary’s new event centre was unveiled on Monday. The arena will be called Scotia Place.
Inspiration for the design was taken from the land, fire and ice. It will also draw from Indigenous gathering spaces and art.
The facility will include a community rink, outdoor and indoor plazas, four restaurants, the Calgary Flames Team Store and future development opportunities.“It will provide gathering places and amenities for the 8,000 people who will live in this new downtown neighbourhood,” the city said.The main arena is set to seat 18,400 for hockey, while the community rink will have a capacity of 1,000.
