Environment Canada warns of significant rainfall and reduced visibility due to fog in the Greater Toronto Area.

Environment Canada is warning of significant amounts of rain in the Greater Toronto Area and beyond that will make roads wet and slippery on Sunday. The department forecasts 20 to 44 millimetres of rain in Toronto , Guelph, Oakville, Hamilton, Kitchener, London, Vaughan, Oshawa, Markham, Richmond Hill and other areas. Rainy conditions will begin Sunday morning and eventually reduce to isolated showers at night, Environment Canada says.

Fog is also expected to cause near-zero visibility in Toronto and surrounding areas, the department said. Environment Canada is urging people to stay away from washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts, and keep children and pets away from creeks and river banks. Toronto and Region Conservation Authority says a Flood Outlook, Watershed Conditions Statement is in effect until 10:00 p.m. Monday. It says the combination of rainfall, above-freezing temperatures, frozen ground, ice and snow melt could create dangerous conditions near rivers or other water bodies and advises people to avoid all shorelines and rivers within the GTA.Toronto is seeing patchy dense fog that is expected to continue in the morning, Environment Canada said. In a fog advisory issued at 4:35 a.m. on Sunday, the department said near-zero visibility has already begun in the city. 'If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance,' it said
