A cyclist was killed after a crash with a truck in Central Saanich on Sunday morning, during a bike race.
Central Saanich Police say they were called to the 6400-block of Central Saanich Road, near Tanner Road, for a report of a cyclist being hit by a truck just after 10 a.m.
“Despite the best efforts of Emergency Services and staff at the Victoria General Hospital, the cyclist succumbed to her injuries,” said Central Saanich Police in a release Monday. Organizers of the race say they are “heartbroken” about the crash, and add that the rider had participated in similar cycling events in the past.“As many of you may know, there was a serious cycling accident at the TripleShot CrossFondo event. We are heartbroken to share with you that the rider did not survive their injuries. We are so very grateful to those who were at the scene to help the rider until the paramedics arrived.
