, the grassroots physician-led community effort focused on the attraction and retention of healthcare providers and students to Pictou County, is helping to support local students with medical school aspirations with a new study group that helps prepare students for the Medical College Admissions Test and other admission requirements.
“Further, we recognize that the MCAT is just one of the many requirements for applying to medical school, and we wanted to not only create that network and community but also help alleviate some of the barriers as local students pursue their medical learning journey.”Many prospective medical students use the spring and summer to prepare for and write the MCAT in July or August.
Dr. Brad MacDougall, a family physician and Nova Scotia Health MD Lead for Recruitment, Preceptor, and Site Director for North Nova Family Medicine, sees the immense benefit of forming such a group in Pictou County. The opening of the Cape Breton Medical Campus, slated for the fall of 2025, will add 30 additional seats to the Dalhousie School of Medicine's annual admissions, making the launch of the study group timely.
