Over 65s comprise 18% of Canada’s population, account for about 45 per cent of health-care spending
A new report says Canada needs to rethink its approach to health care to help manage rising costs as people age.
The group projects costs will continue to increase significantly, with seniors making up 22 per cent of the Canadian population by 2040. “The Canadian health-care system is often described as a ‘sickness treatment’ or ‘illness treatment’ system, our public health-care system is primarily focused on doctors and hospitals,” she said in an interview Tuesday.
