Several Montrealers died in the crash of a Boeing 737 plane in Tehran late Tuesday, the Montreal Gazette has learned.
Just prior to the crash, a passenger sent a text message to friends in Montreal saying he was on a plane to Ukraine and that the flight was not cancelled despite the Iranian shelling on an air force base in Iraq that housed U.S. troops. “He said he was coming back home,” Namdari said. “He was really one of my best friends,” Ajalli said through tears. “He was reliable, he was trustworthy, he was honest.”The last time the two spoke, it was by phone around the time of Siavash’s wedding in Tehran.
He added that his parents attended the wedding, and he has been in touch with his cousin’s family and said “most of them are crying.” “We learned about it in ,” said the spokesperson. “She was supposed to return to work this week or next week.”Moeini, 35, had been in Quebec for four years and had returned to Iran for a family visit over the holidays.Sadeghi said he knew Moeini was on the flight from Iran to Ukraine because he had previously sent him his flight information. “There is only one flight to Kiev from Iran every day,” he said.
